The National Centre for Sports Aerodynamics (NCSA) Wind Tunnel in Adelaide was developed through a joint initiative by the Australian and South Australian Governments to establish the city as a global cycling hub. Built alongside the SA Athletics Stadium and designed by AEROLAB, the facility enhances training for the Australian Cycling Team and the South Australian Sports Institute, supporting preparation for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Sturdie delivered the full electrical and communications services for the project, including the main switchboard, light and power, pit and pipe networks, CCTV, access control, and data communications. The work involved installing 295 light fittings, 4,700 metres of sub-circuit cabling, 650 metres of submain cabling, 670 metres of trenching, and a harmonic filter.
Completed in May 2024, the project provided a high-performance, reliable electrical and communications backbone to support elite sports training.
Sturdie’s work was recognised as a finalist in the Minor Projects Award at NECA SA, reflecting the team’s expertise and commitment to delivering complex, high-profile projects.
