Queen’s Wharf is a landmark precinct located on the Brisbane River in the heart of the CBD, designed to embrace Brisbane’s subtropical climate while celebrating the area’s Indigenous and European heritage. Following the record flooding event of February 2022, significant sections of the Waterline Park and Queen’s Wharf Foreshore Precinct sustained damage to critical electrical and communications infrastructure.
Sturdie was engaged to undertake emergency make-safe works and lead the recovery of affected services across the precinct. The initial phase focused on securing electrical and communications assets, detailed reporting and cost planning of damaged infrastructure, and the cleaning and inspection of all inground pits and pipe networks. Sturdie worked closely with the client team, including DBC and The Star, to assess the full extent of damage and plan the scope of permanent repair works.
Project delivery included the replacement of all house services from the main switchboard through to the Will & Flow Café, undertaken in collaboration with Energex to reinstate the point of supply. Sturdie also completed the replacement of approximately 350 handrail lights along the boardwalk, installed bespoke RGB lighting boxes to the underside of the Riverside Expressway, and repaired critical fibre infrastructure servicing duress and CCTV systems.
The works restored safety, functionality, and visual impact to a high-profile public precinct, demonstrating Sturdie’s capability to deliver complex emergency response and recovery works within a live, iconic urban environment.
